The Britannia Building Society Image had its origins in 1856 as the Leek and Moorlands Permanent Benefit Building Society. Over the years it acquired smaller societies before changing its name to the Britannia in 1975. It lost its mutual status in 2009 when merged with what is now the Co-operative Bank Image The name “Britannia” is due to disappear by the end of 2013. This branch is at nos 5-9 Arthur Street.
