A short distance from the more garish part of Union Street, there is the Stonehouse Credit Union, a fine contrast to the credit card culture of the 21st century with its high interest rates. No doubt it has been serving the community for perhaps a century? Next to it is a traditional tailor's shop. This row of shops and buildings show how an area can be made more attractive by some simple elements of continuity.
