This early August 2013 view between Wood Street and Cardiff bus station shows a display on the left announcing that Cardiff has been awarded the prestigious title of European Capital of Sport 2014. The announcement was made by officials from the European Capitals of Sports Association at a meeting in Valencia, Spain. It was recognised that Cardiff is a leading city for sport, offering state-of-the-art stadiums and facilities such as the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff International Sports Stadium and the SWALEC Stadium (Glamorgan County Cricket Ground)
