Like most of the Ards, the community of Ballywalter is solidly Protestant and Loyalist. In the 2011 Census 84.45% belong to or were brought up in a 'Protestant and Other Christian (including Christian related)' religion and only 5.52% belonged to or were brought up in the Catholic religion. The Ballywalter Ward has a population of some 4,200.
