Melrose Fire Station

The banner "save your local fire station" on this building in High Street, Melrose is in protest against the Lothians and Borders Fire and Rescue Service plan to close the station as part of a five year service improvement plan. However, despite a spirited local campaign to prevent the closure, the station will shut down in June 2007. Fire officials believe that the personnel at the nearby wholetime fire station at Galashiels can mobilise much faster than the retained personnel at Melrose station.
