The old fire station at Melrose

This attractive small building is located in the northwest corner of Gibson Park next to the police station in High Street, Melrose, and is fairly close to the modern fire station that is due to close in June 2007. The building would appear to be late 19th century (there is a photograph dated circa 1890 in a local book) and the first fire engine was a horse drawn appliance. The siren on the roof looks to be world war two vintage and nowadays the building is used for storage.
