This building in Duke Street opened in 1912 as the Oxford Cinema, it closed as a cinema in 1956 and reopened the same year as the Plaza Ballroom. The Beatles performed here on more than occasion between 1962 and 1963. In the 1980's it became a nightclub named Cindys and later once again renamed The Plaza when it received a garish purple paint-job, before eventually closing in 2005 when it was The Orange House. As a derelict building it had become an eyesore and the target of vandalism but was saved from demolition due to its art-deco styling and it has recently been refurbished.
