A bit of a mystery here. The rather battered board advertises "Greenfield Signs - Pictorial Gilding and Traditional Signwriting". Possibly the business originated here, which would explain how it got its name, but "Greenfield Signs" - assuming it is the same firm - is now a signwriting business in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
