The tower and spire of Privett church form a prominent and unexpected landmark, in a deeply rural part of the Hampshire countryside which has changed little since Gilbert White wrote about it in the 18th century. A magnificent edifice, it was designed by Blomfield and built at the expense of Sir William Nicholson, the distiller, in 1876–78. Seen here from across the fields from the south.
