This is all that remains of the Cook's Kitchen mine which by legend was first opened by a man called Cook who used to boast that the mineral lode was 'as wide as my kitchen'. Nobody actually knows when mining started here but it may have been as long ago as the 1690's. This photograph was taken from the other side of the railway line which runs in a cutting behind the fence.
