In the early part of the last century, steam powered "Agricultural General Purpose Engines" were used as mobile power plants. These heavy traction engines were often owned by contractors moving from farm to farm rather than by individual farmers. In an attempt to reduce the damage done to stone lined drainage culverts, there is a notice on the small village green situated alongside High Lane. The stone, set into the ground, states; 'Gunthwaite and Ingbirchworth UDC. Notice Owners of Traction Engines will be responsible for damage done by them in crossing this culvert By Order'
