The Typhoon FGR4 is a multi-role combat aircraft with a maximum speed of 1.8 Mach and a maximum altitude of 55,000 feet. Two squadrons of Typhoons are based at Leuchars where aircraft and crews are on high alert to scramble and intercept unidentified aircraft in UK airspace. Planes fly frequently throughout the day on routine training missions.
