A recent correspondent to the local paper, who has known the pool and the adjacent Hartlebury Common for over 75 years, commented that years ago this was a popular swimming spot. Today you are far more likely to find dogs swimming here than people. On many maps the name of the pool is shown with a double 'l', but the most common local spelling is Hilditch, as used in the newspaper and in tourist literature, and this is the spelling I follow.
