The path as marked on the map actually crosses the field of oil seed rape but crossing it on foot would be a futile task today as the crop is chest to head height and dense. It would be exhausting! No need anyway as the farmer has thoughtfully cleared this alternative route. It takes longer than the direct line but with the crop in place it is the shorther option. No brainer.
