India Street forms part of Edinburgh's second New Town, built at the beginning of the 19th century just to the north of the original 18th century New Town. James Clerk Maxwell, the physicist, was born at 14 India Street in 1831. Of particular interest to Geograph is the fact that he was a pioneer of colour photography.
