Much of the inscription is eroded, and there is no indication of the body involved. There is a list of Directors on one side, headed by James Fairclough President, and the date of laying (1891) on the other. Also visible is a cut bench mark on the right hand wall, equally much eroded due to the softness of the sandstone. Update 2020: A former local resident has informed me that this was the local Co-operative store.
