The Palace Hotel was opened in 1868. Its magnificent exterior was designed by Henry Currey, architect to the Duke of Devonshire in his time. Other notable works by Currey in Buxton include the Pump Room (1875)(opposite The Crescent) and the nearby Natural Baths (adjacent to The Crescent). Henry Currey also converted two thirds of Buxton's "Devonshire Hospital" stable building into a hospital in 1859. However, he was not responsible for the dome there - see Image For an alternative view of the Palace Hotel, please see Image
