About 20 years ago I remember seeing a very fine steam-engine pub sign somewhere hereabouts. The engine depicted was an LNER stream-lined Pacific, in blue livery with streaming exhaust - the whole design rendered in Art Deco style, perfect for the 1930's subject. Since then I've looked for that sign a couple of times, but without success - thinking I was looking for a pub called 'The Railway'. I now suspect I got the name wrong, and that this sign has replaced the one I so much liked. For me, the current design makes far less impact, but it's still a decent job. My knowledge of the old LNER is very limited, but my guess is that the scene shown is a plausible one, historically speaking. I'd be happy to be corrected, but I reckon the engine (shown standing at Baldock station) is a B1 - otherwise known as a 'Bongo' !
