Seven Stars (2) - sign, 75 Birchfield Road, Headless Cross, Redditch

The pub closed in April 2013 and when photographed was to let. This sign had in fact only been installed a few months before the closure. The sign shows the seven stars in the sky which form the constellation of Ursa Major, which is often known as The Plough. The latter is a frequent sign for pubs, particularly in rural areas where agriculture is or used to be the major occupation. Pubs called Seven Stars are far less common, but there are still a few around. The man shown on the sign is presumably an astronomer. Image
