Iron suspension bridge designed by Peeblesshire engineer John Stevenson Brown and built in 1826 to link the village of Gattonside to Melrose. This is the stone pylon at the Melrose end. The bridge was reconstructed in 1991 and given a new deck, prompting a comment on RCAHMS' Canmore website: "this wouldn't have happened to a Chippendale chair of the same date".
