A Wesleyan Methodist Church was built in Uppermill in 1813. It was superseded by the present church which was built in 1913. Photos of the original churches can be viewed at http://blogs.hud.ac.uk/subject-areas/historians-at-work/2013/05/14/uppermill-methodist-church/ where Huddersfield University student Emma describes creating an exhibition for the bi-centenary.
