This fine old pub has been closed and semi-derelict for some years, so it was good to discover that it is to be converted to student accommodation, with retail outlets on the ground floor. The statue of Benjamin Mayo, The Old General (Image]), will be preserved and repositioned at ground level, with a plaque explaining how the building got its name.
