This part of the Clyde Valley was once known for growing tomatoes and other fruit and vegetables. Foreign competition in the late 20th century caused many growers to close or change over to operating garden centres. With a move towards locally-grown produce, some attempts are being made to revive tomato-growing in the valley, but these greenhouses are decaying and full of weeds, a bit of a sad sight.
