Typical single-storey almshouses, along the east side of the High Street. An inscription over a doorway reads 'Rebuilt 1866'. My guess is that the present houses replaced others dating from the 17th century - which would have been similar in scale and style. Almshouses are often the oldest small dwellings in a locality, but not here in Much Hadham, where a good number of early timber-framed cottages have survived.
