A late 18th-century morthouse from the period when parishioners dreaded body-snatchers making off with the bodies of their dead relatives. The deceased were placed temporarily within this secure structure before burial until their corpses had decomposed to the point where they were of no use to anatomists prepared to buy fresh ones for dissection.
