Hoffman kiln at Prestongrange

This well preserved brick kiln forms part of the Prestongrange Industrial Museum http://prestongrange.org/site/ . The large openings are the entrances to the chambers where the bricks were stacked for firing; the smaller ones would be for ash removal. The kilns were stoked through holes in the top surface of the kiln. Note the narrow gauge railway tracks for the trucks that would have been used for delivering and removing the bricks. The kiln is Listed Category B.
