This type of conifer plantation covers about 35% of the square. Being close to the large village of West Moors this area is popular with the locals. Some four hours prior to taking this picture the corner shown had firs and birch with old ragged gorse up to the track edge. This has been much reduced to encourage the re growth of heather which will provide improved habitat for heathland flora and fauna.
