Approximately half way along Bleak Hills Lane, immediately after “The Railway Site” fishing pond that belongs to the Bleak Hills Fishery & Bird Sanctuary, is this entrance (or exit) to the southern section of this “local nature reserve”. This reserve of 6.3 hectares was created in 2005 to replace habitats lost through the construction of Oakham Business Park. A well-maintained boardwalk and bridge over the river Maun allows pedestrians to walk from Kings Mill reservoir, through Oakham and across Sheepbridge Lane and into the Quarry Lane Walkway local nature reserve and thence into Mansfield town centre.
