View NE, towards Aldershot, Woking and London Waterloo: ex-LSWR (London) - Woking - Aldershot - Farnham - Alton - Winchester line, electrified as far as Alton in 1937; since then through services have run only as far as Alton, although it was a useful diversionary route to Southampton until Alton - Winchester was closed from 5/2/73. (Alton - Alresford is now preserved as the 'Watercress Line'). Note the level-crossing at the London end, with a car crossing. (Cf. Image]).
