Although a place of worship has been recorded in Pirbright from the early 13th c, the present church of St Michael and All Angels dates from the late 18th c. Pirbright was a very poor parish during this period and the church fell into disrepair. Luckily as King George III was passing through his coach was damaged and to show his appreciation to the villagers for their hospitality he authorised a national collection be made to finance the rebuilding of the church.
