Castle Motte at Stapleton

Extensive information about this motte is very thin on the ground (well, on the web, anyway.) It's thought to date from the 12th century, and to have been built by Stapleton-in-Legharness. Past excavations confirm that it originally had a ditch surrounding it, but much of that has been infilled over the years.
