The road, that cut through the banks and ditches of Caesar's Camp Iron Age hillfort, was constructed to allow the elderly and infirm Queen Anne to follow the hunt in her carriage. The old wood lining has recently been replaced with new Western Cedar boarding to prevent slippage of the banks. The hillfort itself predates Caesar by about 700 years.
