The bridge where Cavendish Street (A627) crosses the River Tame was built in the first year of the Crimean War and was named after its first major battle, The Battle of Alma. The bridge is at the boundary between Dukinfield (previously part of Cheshire) and Ashton-Under-Lyne (formerly in Lancashire); it served as a toll bar until 1902. Image]
