Fence at the end of Stanley Road, Lowestoft

It blocks the access to Lake Lothing which can be seen in the background. Lake Lothing is a saltwater lake in Lowestoft, believed to be the remnant of medieval peat cutting. It empties into the North Sea and forms part of Lowestoft port. The area once used to be a major industrial centre with ship building and other engineering industries, much of which has now closed and many of the old industrial sites located along the lake have made way for modern business units. A bascule bridge takes the A12 road over the lake in the centre of the town. Oulton Broad adjoins Lake Lothing at its western end, where the two are connected by Mutford lock.
