Believed to be the site of the first Kilnhurst railway station which was opened by the North Midland Railway in 1841 on the line from Rotherham to Leeds, but closed in 1851. It was replaced by a later Kilnhurst station immediately behind the photographer which opened in 1869 and closed in 1968.
