Hurpur Hill and Hindlow have, like Great Rocks Dale, been the scene of extensive limestone extraction of the years. This view shows the Brierlow Bar book store in the fork of the roads, along with the course of the railway (and Hindlow Tunnel) which still serves the quarries here and which was once part of the LNWR Ashbourne to Buxton line.
