The nearer of these two bridges carries the A70, a dual carriageway, over the Union Canal, superseding the older bridge just to the north.I'm not sure what the purpose of the wrought iron screens is, other than to create a chicane which might slow down some of the cyclists, but they are attractive in their own right.
