The name Doffcocker, the area in which the pub is situated, is thought to be derived from the Celtic dubh (dark) cocr (stream). The pub is an example of a calendar pub. It has 4 floors (seasons of the year), 52 doors (weeks), 7 rooms to each floor (days of the week), 12 cellars (months), and 365 windows (days in a year).
