The land falls sharply away to the west from Grange Road and at various points footpaths descend steeply to roads at a lower level. Here, a triangular green (the houses on either side of which are called Annsworthy Crescent) leads one down to the end of Lenham Road. The sign forbidding ball games is captioned "London Boro' of Croydon" but its design is old-fashioned, without logos or other design quirks, and indeed close examination indicates that the first words originally read "County Boro'", placing it before 1965.
