The simple farmhouse hostel at Dernasesk (Derrynashesk) in northern Co Fermanagh, right up against the Co Donegal border, between Kesh and Pettigo, operated for a short spell between June 1948 and July 1950. It is now converted into a cow byre. The Youth Hostel Association of Northern Ireland experimented with a few scattered hostels in the west, mainly for cyclists because of the isolated terrain, in the period around 1950.
