Hele Mill has unusual drive arrangements with the wallower driving an horizontal layshaft that has bevels at each end to drive the bevelled stone nuts. One of these can be seen on the extreme right edge and the long lever is to take it in and out of engagement. Groups of spare wooden gear teeth dangle from the roof. The mill has two pairs of stones but only one is operational.
