Despite the corporate name of the supermarket over the front entrance nothing can disguise the provenance of this building as a cinema. This is the Abbey Cinema, as it was, which opened in 1939 and closed in 1979. In its heyday it was one of the most popular cinemas in Liverpool with nearly 1,900 seats.
