The River Colne Barrier, Wivenhoe

The Colne Barrier was built in 1994 to protect parts of Colchester, Wivenhoe and Rowhedge, vulnerable to tidal surges from the North Sea. The barrier is 8m high and 130m long, with a navigation opening of 30m.
