Trencherfield Mill houses the world's largest original working steam engine. The 2500 hp J & E Wood horizontal -twin tandem triple-expansion steam engine, which powered the mill for sixty years, has been restored and operates as a visitor attraction known as the Trencherfield Mill Steam Engine. The two halves of the engine are called Rina and Helen. They drive the mill’s unique multi-floor rope race through the 26-foot, 70 ton flywheel with 54 ropes.
