This is a scan of a photograph taken in the mid 1950's, exact date not recorded, and shows a Nile river boat under construction at the Rowhedge Ironworks Ltd, yard in Rowhedge near Colchester, Essex. The flat bottomed boats were built in the manner of a child's Meccano set. The frames, hull plates, etc., were drilled and instead of being riveted, were bolted together. On completion the components were numbered dissembled, crated and shipped to Africa for rebuilding and finishing.
