Complete with seagull. Thomas Russel Crampton is chiefly remembered as a designer of locomotives and of railways, but he was also concerned with gas supply, water works and submarine telegraph cables. He was the first to succeed in laying an effective telegraph cable under the English Channel. The tower (built in 1859) formed part of the first public water supply system in Broadstairs. It now houses a small museum - see http://www.cramptontower.co.uk/.
