The almshouses at Nos.6 & 8 College Street were the first to be built consequential of the endowment left by Leonard Chamberlain in his will of 1716. The inscription on the oval plaque on the pediment reads: 'This hospital was built AD 1800 R.Hill S.Martin J.Thompson E.Thompson Trustees of Leonard Chamberlain dec'd'.
