Opened in 1891 by the Mersey Railway as the terminus of its line from Liverpool via Birkenhead, where it connected with the Birkenhead Woodside to Chester line. View south towards Bebington and Chester. This station replaced an earlier 1863 one of the same name, beyond the road bridge at the far end of the platform.
