The line from Otford to Maidstone East was opened on 1st June 1874 by the London, Chatham & Dover Railway. Kemsing station was opened on the same day. The station is unstaffed as it has been for many years and there are no buildings on the platforms. This view is in the up direction towards Otford. It seems that there were once buildings on the up platform to the left where a level area adjacent to the platform can be seen this side of the shelter and behind the temporary fence.
