Fernbank and the Sundayswells Viaduct (1987)

(aka Balnacraig Viaduct). Seen from the A980 some 130 years after the viaduct was built (1857-59), and 20 years after the last North Deeside Railway train used it. Despite local efforts to preserve the structure it proved to be too expensive a venture, and the demolition squad moved in in 1989. Just how perilously dangerous it had become was evident when the first swing of the 'iron ball' brought several of the northern arches crashing down onto the minor road beneath!
